SAN FRANCISCO OLD MINT-Â SAN FRANCISCO, CA
The 100,000 sq. ft. Classical Revival styled Mint was built in 1874 for two million dollars. The $89.7 million renovation and adaptive reuse project now underway will transform the Mint Into the first U.S. history museum to be built in the 21st Century. The Mint will be one of the first LEED-Certified (probably Silver) National Landmarks in the United States. NBA is providing complete MEP design services. We are working with other consultants to avoid damage to or visual impact on the historic building elements while incorporating the latest green design technology for the LEED rating.
AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM AND LIBRARY- OAKLAND, CA
The former Charles Greene Library was built between 1900 and 1904 and is a National Register Landmark. Returning the structure to full use included structurally upgrading the building, conserving historic elements and adapting the building for use as a research library and museum.
CASA DE BALBOA MUSEUM-SAN DIEGO, CA
Provided fire protection systems including humidity control which was a sensitive issue especially for areas with parchment, scroll, or objects with lacquer finish display. The project was completed and implemented with minimal effect on the beauty of these unique documents and structures.
COURT OF APPEALS LIBRARY -SACRAMENTO, CA
Renovation of a historical space in the California State Library and Courts Building for use as a law library for the Third Court of Appeals. NBA worked with the consulting historian to uncover and restore ceiling/beam painting and integrated existing day lighting and new artificial lighting with the interior architecture. NBA installed a new HVAC distribution system that respects the historical quality of the space.
DUNSMUIR HOUSE-OAKLAND, CA
The 37-room mansion constructed in 1878 features a Tiffany-style dome, wood paneled public rooms, 10 fireplaces and inlaid parquet floors within its 16,224 square feet. Provided extensive field survey. Prepared as built electrical diagrams. Provided electrical load calculation to verify the size of replacement panels. Provided a report including cost estimates and electrical recommendations.
HISTORIC SOCIETY MUSEUM & MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS -SAN DIEGO,CA
The challenge was to install special fire protection system (such as pre-action sprinkler system in old book collection area, high throw, side wall type sprinklers for high dome shaped ceilings in the galleries), fire alarm and security system (such as surveillance cameras, motion detectors alarm systems for display areas) for these historic and nationally renowned buildings while keeping the character of the existing structures.

Named in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, the Hollywood Roosevelt had its grand opening on May 15, 1927 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. NBA provided new HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical power and lighting design for this 12-story hotel with an outdoor café and restaurant.
SAN DIEGO PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT- SAN DIEGO, CA
Surveyed four museums with buildings of historical nature and provided investigative report for the HVAC, plumbing, electrical power, lighting, fire alarm, and security systems. Based on the result of the study, designed fire protection, fire alarm, and security systems.
YWCA BUILDING-OAKLAND, CA
5 story 100,000 sq. ft. historic YWCA building designed by Julia Morgan in 1929. This multi use facility includes living spaces, kitchen, classrooms, library, day care, and medical care facilities. NBA's participation included HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, plumbing, pool renovation, electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and security systems redesign for entire building. NBA preservation of lighting systems included replacing old incandescent with new fluorescent that resembled the old, dimming systems and specialty controls.
VETERANS ADMINISTRATION BUILDING - LONG BEACH, CA
NBA modified the basement piping to accommodate the seismic retrofit, including the replacement of all plumbing fixtures (waste, vent, domestic hot & cold water). Our firm also modified piping systems for the clinical vacuum, compressed air, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and nitrous oxide throughout the 12-story 120,000 sq. ft. patient wing
