African American Museum and Library - Oakland, CA

18,000 sq. ft. multi-story structure with a partial basement (boiler room) that is registered as a historic site.  The design had to conform to the Secretary of the Interior’s standards for historic preservation projects. NBA designed the HVAC and plumbing systems for the entire building.  Adequate zoning and humidity controls were of major concern. Hot water for heating (as opposed to steam) and air-conditioning were provided for the entire building. NBA provided construction document for HVAC and humidity control in the designated areas in the main building or stack area. Provided construction documents for waste, vent, domestic hot and cold water and gas.  Verified existing building utilities capacities. Complied with ADA guidelines and all local & state codes.
